of Education
I believe education is one of the most important skills every person needs in life. Everyone wants to learn and should have the opportunity to a free and appropriate public education that meets the needs of every individual. Each child comes with a special gift that makes him/her unique and different and should be taught in a way to help him/her reach his/her maximum ability to learn. I believe that children should be taught in the least restricted environment that will help them learn in their own learning styles and not just one size fit all.
I believe every child wants to learn and can learn. Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Children want to learn in an environment that is full of potential for them. Inclusion classroom learning makes a child want to be in a classroom with their peers. They know that if they need help someone is there to help them along with their peers and they are not pulled out of the classroom feeling like they are not as good as the other children.
I believe that learning should be done in a style that meets the students’ needs. Learning should not be a burden for anyone. It should be something that makes students feel good about themselves. If a child learns best by being able to move around every fifteen minutes to help them focus, then their learning style should be differentiated to meet the student’s needs. No child should be forced to take a test for forty-five minutes if his/her IEP requires him/her to move around.
I believe teachers should come into their classrooms classroom open-minded to the fact that students are their future generation. If we want to make a change we must educate our young children to be able to make things better than they are today. We must educate them to their maximum potential. We must always have high expectations for our children, not so high that they cash out, but high enough to make them want to push harder.
I believe that every teacher should be fair and not do for one child what he/she is willing to do for another. Children are observing us as well as we are observing them. For some children the only love they may receive is from a teacher, so each teacher should be willing to make a class of eighteen children feel like all eighteen of them are his/her very own. Children are looking for guidance and structure in their lives, so teachers should model what they expected their students to reflect.
I believe teachers should be willing to understand that children did not wake up and decide how they would live their lives. They are a reflection of their family beliefs and culture. Teachers should understand that every family is different and every child is coming with what the family have given to them not what they choose. Teachers must be willing to reach out to administrators, families, and the community to work with meeting the children’s needs.
I believe teachers should teach children to respect each other differences. They should have children work together in groups to build knowledge from and to help each other in a respectful manner. Every teacher should have the ability to maintain a classroom that will encourage and motivate students. Every teacher should have control of the classroom environment at all times to meet every individual needs to help them succeed.
If you were to visit my classroom, you should always see children, according to their teacher expectations, ready and willing to learn. In a classroom lesson, all children are engaged and working according to their level of ability weather it is whole or small group instruction. All adults in the classroom should be participating in the lesson activity assisting and guiding the children to work towards independence. The classroom should look like a family and the teachers, like a marriage, working hand-in-hand to get the job done.
